Historical Trauma

When westward expansion took place in this country, it was often at the expense of the indigenous peoples of this country, the American Indians.  In looking back at the past few centuries, we witness the many harmful events and situations inflicted upon Indians. The adverse effects of these historical events are often carried down several generations, and may be felt for years to come.  This is known as historical trauma.
